Double your download speed. No joke!

I stumbled across this little dandy of a program over at digg. Apparently it’s an old trick, but I never knew about it so it’s new.

It’s called SG TCP Optimizer. From the website:

The program can aid both the novice and the advanced user in tweaking related TCP/IP parameters in the Windows Registry, making it easy to tune your system to the type of Internet connection used. The tool uses advanced algorithms, and the bandwidth*delay product to find the best TCP Window for your specific connection speed. It provides for easy tunning of all related TCP/IP parameters, such as MTU, RWIN, and even advanced ones like QoS and ToS/Diffserv prioritization. The program works with all current versions of Windows, and includes additional tools, such as testing average latency over multiple hosts, and finding the largest possible packet size (MTU).

Here is what it did for me: (SpeedTest.net)

So how can you get the same results?

1. If you are using XP go here and download SG TCP Optimizer.
2. Run the program. (No install required)
3. It should look something like this:

4. Check the Optimal Setting radio button, unless you are a genius and know what all the settings are.
5. Restart your computer, and watch the magic happen.

not as great as a jump for me.. only got me up to around 7 meg after … same as yours before

    but still good

Didnt work for me at all…

I went from 3megs to just under 3megs for down

but from like 125kb to arround 200 for up.

Works for some, but not for all.

I tried it out and he results weren\’t that spectacular. My original results were 9407Kbps down and 2122Kbps up. After the tweaking they were 10528Kbps down and 2172Kbps up. A small improvement, sure, but not double.

This is an older article (a little over one year from right now). It appears that this trick no longer works, although for some people it didn’t work to begin with.
