Sebaceous Cyst - Gone.

Thanks to my mother’s inferior genetics I am prone to something called a sebaceous cyst.  Basically, it’s a blocked sweat gland that fills with fluid overtime and becomes generally annoying but harmless.

I have had one of these on my head for a couple of years.  However, over the past couple of months it started to get increasingly bigger and bigger and bigger and so on and so forth.  So about 4 hours ago I had it removed.

Here is the before picture.  This is right out of the shower.  Keep in mind that I moved my hair out of the way to take this picture.  It normally doesn’t stick out that much.  As you can see it pretty much just looks like somebody hit me over the head with a baseball bat.

And here is the picture of it once it has been removed.  The top part is actually the skin from my head.  They have to remove a wedge of skin for two reasons.  1.  It’s something to pull on when they pull the “sack” out.  2.  It removes the excess skin so that when the cyst is removed you don’t have a bunch of skin flopping around on your head.  I would also like to note that you normally don’t get a picture of your cyst, but I requested one.  I was just a little freaked out that something that big was on my head.

All in all it was an interesting experience, and I no longer have a giant knot on my head.  It’s a bit painful right now but i’m sure after the stitches are removed and everything is all healed up I’ll be good to go.

Hey bill, thanks for stopping in. It was pretty sore for about 2 days. After that it wasn’t really a big deal at all. I had the stitches in for a week and then it was life as usual.
