This past weekend Vice-President Dick Cheney was out hunting in Texas with some friends he has known for thirty some years. Well on this particular hunting outing tragedy struck, like it often does all around the world everyday, and Cheney accidentally shot one of his hunting partners. I will now ask that you get your jokes and giggles and republican jokes out of the way now, because I’m not writing this to talk about that. What I would like to discuss is the way the media has handled this, and quite honestly it disgusts me.
First of all what business does MTV have covering the news? Shouldn’t they be out looking for “uber” hot bands that they can exploit and make millions of dollars from? Secondly, since when is waiting for days after you shot accidentally shot someone considered breaking the silence? This guy just shot someone on accident. Give him a break! If he needs a week or two to get himself together and make sure that the guy he shot is ok, then I say that is ok. I don’t think we need to start demanding that Cheney spit out the story of what happened right away. I mean, if I shot somebody would I have to give a press conference right away? Hell no, because it’s nobody else’s business. So since when is a hunting accident the American people’s business?

Yes, that is the title of their article. Never mind that someone got shot in the face, neck, and upper torso. It’s not important what the circumstances were, if everybody is ok, or how the vice president is feeling about having just accidentally shot someone. What we want to know is who has the interview!
“I think that the vice president clearly explained the rationale behind that,” White House press secretary Scott McClellan said, avoiding a direct response to questions about whether Bush felt the shooting accident was publicly disclosed in a timely manner.” -WashingtonPost.com
This is the second article from the Washington Post (of 3 available from the Washington post, they are all over this) I have to give president Bush some credit here, he talked about the issue dispute the media hounding him about when he should have “confessed” shooting someone.
All in all this whole thing just sickens me. We seem to be so concerned with the circumstances around events that we don’t even care what the event was. It’s like who cares if the guy was maimed or killed, WHY DIDN’T I KNOW ABOUT THIS SOONER? WHO ARE WE GOING TO BLAME?
I also thought it was pretty funny that this is the second time (that I know of) that a vice president has shot someone while in office. On July 11, 1804 Vice President Aaron Burr Shot Alexander Hamilton in a dual. I bet nobody had any questions for vice president Burr after that shooting.
