Rebates.

You can’t go shopping anywhere anymore without seeing a rebate somewhere. I was in Best Buy a couple of weeks ago looking at hard drives. I saw one that I liked that was $150, with a $60 rebate. I thought “my god, that’s $90 after it’s all said and done with.” What a deal. So how is it that Best Buy can offer these steal of a deal rebates? It’s simple there are people who do not take advantage of this deal.

A rebate requires that you pay full price for the item that you are purchasing then fill out a rebate form and attach the UPC of the product that you bought. 6 to 8 weeks later you get a check or voucher for the amount of the rebate.

If I was a betting man (which I am) I would bet that the percentage of people that actually go through with the rebate is low. I mean once you have bought the item, it’s easy to say forget about the rebate, lose it, or just say “screw it”.

What is the point of all this? Simple. It’s about time that corporate America started taking advantage of the millions of stupid consumers to make their quick buck, instead of scamming me for mine.
